WGA at the London Open Championships

On the first weekend of September, our squad boys took part in the Mental Health Foundation Men's London Open at the Jean Brown Arena in Essex. This event is traditionally one of the premier Men’s Artistic competitions in the UK and beyond, and attracts gymnasts from clubs across the Country.

Our boys competed on Friday August 30th under the National Development Program Club Grades formula. They all gave outstanding performances, which you will see from the results below, and for most of them this was their first high ranked competition.

Level 1 under 9:

James Mundrel took a very good 14th place with a strong performance across all six events.

Level 2 under 10:

Cameron John, with few wobbles, took 30th position.

Level 3 under 11:

Laith Coathup, only 0.3 points behind the podium, took 5th all round. Performing his very best, Laith was awarded gold on pommel.

Level 4 under 12:

Represented by Bruno Osman-Hopes and Thomas Egerton, they each took 20th and 22nd place respectively.

Level 5:

Alfie Taylor and Cotton Hennessey, with very good all round performances, took 8th and 9th place.

At the same time as the London Open, the regional team qualifier takes place. Here, the five best boys across the region from each category go on to take part in the National finals which take a place on November 2nd at GMAC, Birmingham.

The boys who qualified and will go on to represent the West Midlands at the National Finals Elite and Club Development are: James Mundrel, Laith Coathup, Alfie Taylor and Cotton Hennessey.

Huge congratulations to all of the boys representing our club! We are very pleased and incredibly proud, and looking forward to the Nationals and beyond.
